| Reverse description | Zeus enthroned to the left, depicted in a majestic seated pose upon a high-backed throne, his body draped in flowing robes. In his extended right hand he holds a small figure of Nike (Victory), while his left hand grasps a tall vertical sceptre. The reverse legend, celebrating Sardes' status as a twice-neocorate city, runs around the periphery in Greek characters. The composition reflects the honorific civic pride of the city in its relationship with the imperial cult. |
