| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gallienus facing right, depicted from behind in the characteristic rear-view presentation common to provincial issues of Asia Minor. The imperial effigy shows the emperor in military attire, with the laurel wreath and paludamentum clearly indicated in the die engraving. The encircling Greek legend identifying the emperor runs around the periphery of the flan. The style is consistent with the civic bronze coinage of Smyrna during the sole reign period. |

| Reverse description | Roma personified seated to the left upon a throne, her extended right hand presenting a small model of a temple, symbolic of Smyrna's neocorate status, while her left hand grasps a long spear or sceptre. A round shield rests at her side. The reverse type alludes to the civic pride of Smyrna as a thrice-neocorate city, honoured with the imperial cult. The encircling legend names the city and its presiding magistrate Sextus. |
