| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus facing right, the emperor portrayed with curly hair beneath a radiate crown, the drapery visible at the shoulder. The Greek imperial legend encircles the bust in the field, reading from left to right. The portrait is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Mesopotamian mint at Edessa, with bold, somewhat stylized facial features typical of the Severan period. |
