| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, seen from the rear, with the radiate crown clearly visible above the head. The effigy displays finely engraved drapery and cuirass details characteristic of provincial Syrian coinage of the early third century AD. The encircling Greek legend occupies the outer field, reading ΑΥΤ Κ Μ Α ΑΝΤωΝΕΙΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his official nomenclature. The portrait style reflects the eastern provincial workshop tradition of Edessa, with a strong, youthful facial profile. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of hammered provincial bronzes of this period. |
