| Reverse description | The reverse presents a homonoia type celebrating the civic concord between Sardes and Ephesus. Artemis of Ephesus (Ephesia) stands facing at centre, depicted in the characteristic cult idol form with supports (lateral props) and flanked by two stags at her sides. To her left stands Zeus Lydios, depicted erect facing left, holding an eagle in his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left. The multi-line Greek legend distributed around and within the field records the eponymous archon Epigenes and identifies both cities in their honorary neocorate capacities. |
