| Additional information |
Hadrianopolis in Thrace — modern Edirne — was a Hadrianic foundation that gained the right to strike provincial bronze under the Severan dynasty. This piece falls within Caracalla's sole reign following the murder of Geta in 212, a period during which provincial mints across Thrace issued heavily, partly in response to Caracalla's military campaigns along the Danubian frontier and his need to maintain local civic loyalty.
Varbanov 3614 is among the scarcer documented dies for this city under Caracalla.
