Additional information

The title ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ — neokoros — was a coveted imperial honor granted to cities permitted to maintain a temple cult in worship of the emperor. Laodicea ad Lycum held it, and this coin announces that status loudly. The designation ΤΟ ΠΗ encodes a civic era date corresponding to 216–217 AD, placing the issue squarely within Caracalla's eastern tour, during which he aggressively distributed and withheld neokorate privileges as political currency among competing Anatolian cities.

Caracalla was assassinated in April 217, making issues from this narrow window exceptionally short-lived in terms of continued production.
