| Obverse description | Laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the provincial Hellenistic style typical of Galatian civic coinage of the early Imperial period. The portrait displays the characteristic wreath of laurel leaves encircling the head, with short, neatly styled hair visible beneath. The surrounding Greek legend ΚΑΙϹΑΡ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟϹ is disposed around the periphery of the flan. The flan is irregular and shows the characteristic flatness of hammered provincial bronze coinage. |

The Koinon of Galatia — the provincial assembly of the Roman province established after Amyntas's death in 25 BC — issued coins under the authority of the imperial legate, here identified in the inscription as the presbeutes, the senatorial governor of a province under direct imperial control. Galatia was assigned to Augustus rather than the Senate, which made its governor an appointee of the emperor rather than a proconsul. The dating to 14–37 places this issue within Tiberius's reign despite the Augustus obverse, a common continuation practice after Augustus's death in 14 AD.
