Reverse description An eagle standing facing on a horizontal bar or perch, with wings spread and head turned to the left, rendered in bold provincial relief characteristic of Marcianopolis civic bronzes. The bird's plumage is carefully detailed with incised feathering on the wings and breast. The Greek legend VΠ ΠONTIANOV MAPKIANOΠOΛITΩN runs around the periphery, referencing the consular legate Pontianus under whose authority the coin was issued. The denomination mark appears in the exergue below the perch.
