| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian facing left, portrayed from the rear in a three-quarter back view, with the figure carrying a spear in the right hand and bearing a shield on the left shoulder decorated with a gorgoneion. The legend encircles the bust within the field, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The rendering reflects the provincial die-cutting style characteristic of Phrygian civic bronzes of the mid-third century. |
