| Reverse description | The goddess Cybele, the Phrygian mother deity particularly venerated in the region of Cotiaeum, is depicted seated and riding to the right upon the back of a striding lion. The figure of Cybele is rendered in flowing drapery, consistent with her traditional iconographic representation on Phrygian civic bronzes of the mid-third century. The legend, distributed across the field in multiple registers, identifies the local magistrate responsible for the issue and the civic authority of the Cotiaeans. A dotted border frames the reverse design. |
