Reverse description The xoanon-type cult statue of Artemis Ephesia stands facing, rendered in the iconic hieratic manner with body tightly swathed in a sheath adorned with multiple rows of oval protuberances (traditionally interpreted as breasts, eggs, or bulls' testes), arms extended horizontally and supported by lateral props or staves. The goddess wears a high polos crown atop her head. The ethnic legend ΑΚΡΑϹΙΩΤΩΝ is disposed in the field around the figure, identifying the issuing civic community of Acrasus.

Additional information

Acrasus was a small Lydian city whose civic coinage output was modest even by provincial standards. Issues under Septimius Severus survive in very limited numbers, almost certainly reflecting the town's constrained resources rather than selective survival — the city simply did not strike often or in large volume.

The Conventus of Pergamum administered a vast stretch of western Anatolia, but member cities retained the right to strike bronze for local exchange. Acrasus exercised that right sparingly.
