Additional information

Antioch on the Maeander was a minor Carian city whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader surge in provincial bronze production that followed his victory in the civil wars of 193–197 AD. Cities across the eastern provinces used the new emperor's accession as an occasion to assert civic identity through coinage, often at their own expense and initiative rather than imperial direction.

The Conventus of Alabanda, to which Antioch belonged for judicial and administrative purposes, was not a major minting center — surviving bronzes from Antioch ad Maeandrum are genuinely scarce in the market.
