| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, seen from the rear, the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and the muscled cuirass rendered in low relief. The legend Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ ΚΑΙ runs around the periphery in Greek characters. The portraiture is characteristic of the provincial civic coinage of Mysia, with the youthful features of Caracalla as Caesar rendered in a bold, slightly schematic style. The flan is irregular, as typical of Poemanenum municipal issues of the Severan period. |
