Obverse description Draped bust of the personified Roman Senate (ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ) facing right, depicted as a mature veiled or turreted figure with drapery visible at the shoulder. The obverse legend ΙΕΡΑ ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ (Sacred Senate) encircles the bust, a characteristic civic type employed by eastern provincial mints during the Severan and later periods to honour the institution of the Senate. The surface shows heavy patination consistent with prolonged circulation.
