Obverse description Bare-headed, youthful draped bust of Commodus as Caesar, wearing paludamentum, facing right and seen from the rear in three-quarter view. The portrait reflects the early, boyish effigy of Commodus prior to his elevation to co-emperor. A Greek legend surrounds the bust within a dotted border.

Reverse description A tall, lighted torch set upon a low altar or base, entwined by a large serpent whose coils wind upward around the shaft, with the snake's head rising to the top near the flame. The image is a common religious symbol associated with chthonic and healing cults in Asia Minor. A Greek civic legend is distributed in the field on either side of the central type, within a dotted border.
