| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Empress Tranquillina facing right, her elaborately braided hair arranged in a stephane-like diadem, with locks falling to the nape of the neck. The bust is rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-3rd century AD. The encircling Greek legend reads ϹΑΒΕΙΝΙΑ ΤΡΑΝΚΥΛΛΕΙΝΑ, identifying the empress as Sabinia Tranquillina, wife of Gordian III. |
