Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III facing right, with short beard visible on the youthful portrait. A six-petalled rosette appears in the lower right field before the bust. The surrounding Greek legend reads ΑΥΤΟΚ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC CEΒ, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The portrait displays the characteristic provincial style of the Edessa mint, with fine radiating lines in the hair. A dotted border frames the entire design.
