Patras held the status of a Roman colony — Colonia Aroe Augusta Patrensis — granted by Augustus, which explains the COL A A PAT formula that distinguished its civic coinage from the Greek-style issues of neighboring Achaean cities. Galba's reign lasted barely seven months, from June 68 to January 69, making any issue struck in his name inherently short-lived. Provincial bronzes from his reign are relatively scarce simply because the mints had little time to produce them before Otho's troops moved against him.
