| Reverse description | The she-wolf (lupa) stands to the right, head turned back to the left, suckling the twin infants Romulus and Remus who crouch beneath her. This celebrated Romulean foundation myth type was a favored device of the Roman colony of Alexandria Troas, asserting its colonial status and Roman heritage. The design is rendered in bold relief typical of provincial bronze coinage, with the colonial legend distributed around the field. The coin's surface is heavily patinated with dark brown and grey encrustations consistent with prolonged burial. |
