Reverse description The Lupa Romana (she-wolf) stands to the right on a ground line, head turned back to the left in the canonical nursing pose, suckling the twin infants Romulus and Remus who recline beneath her. The composition references the founding myth of Rome and is a common type on colonial coinage asserting Roman identity. The legend COL ALEX AVG arcs around the field, with portions appearing above and below the type. The reverse engraving, though worn, preserves the distinctive silhouette of the she-wolf with the twins clearly rendered beneath her body.
