The Koinon of Thessaly — the federal league governing the region under Roman oversight — issued bronze coinage with the names of its annually appointed strategoi, the chief magistrates who held administrative authority over the league. Antigonos held the office during the reign of Claudius, and his name on this coin is among the fewer-documented strategoi of the period, which accounts for the relative obscurity of the I#1433A reference type.
