| Obverse description | Laureate head of the Emperor Claudius facing right, with a star visible before or above the portrait. The effigy is rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style, with broad facial features and a laurel wreath encircling the head. The Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The die work is characteristic of the Alexandrian mint under early Claudian issues. |
