| Reverse description | Dionysus, the god of wine, seated to the left upon a throne or rock, his right hand extending a cantharus downward toward a recumbent panther at his feet, his left hand grasping a tall thyrsus. The composition reflects the close civic association of Cyzicus with Dionysiac cult imagery, and the encircling Greek legend names the city as neokoros. A notable die engraving error is present: the letter Ζ in the reverse legend appears in reversed form. |
