Additional information

Alexandria Troas had held colonial status since Augustus refounded the city as Colonia Augusta Troas, and that grant gave it the unusual privilege of minting bronze coinage centuries after most Asian cities had lost or surrendered such rights. Trebonianus Gallus came to power after the death of Decius at the Battle of Abrittus in 251 — the first Roman emperor killed in battle against a foreign enemy — and the Troadic mint continued striking under him without interruption, suggesting stable local administration despite the chaos engulfing the empire's frontiers.
