| Reverse description | Artemis of Ephesus (Artemis Ephesia) depicted standing facing, her body rendered in the characteristic frontal hieratic pose with arms extended horizontally and supported by stags or devotees on either side. She wears the tall cylindrical kalathos upon her head and the distinctive multi-breasted cult garment. The ethnic legend of the issuing city encircles the type within the field. The type closely follows the canonical representation of the great cult image of the Ephesian Artemis as disseminated across the civic coinage of Asia Minor during the Imperial period. |
