Reverse description Dionysus, god of wine, standing in contrapposto facing left, nude or semi-draped, raising a cantharus (wine cup) in his right hand and holding a long thyrsus (fennel staff topped with a pine cone) in his left hand. The figure is rendered in the Hellenistic provincial style typical of Phrygian civic coinage of the Severan period. The encircling Greek legend names the city of Philomelium and the presiding magistrate Hadrianus.
