| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, her hair elaborately waved and coiled in the characteristic Severan style, drawn back and arranged in ridged waves above the forehead with a large bun at the nape. The empress is depicted with drapery visible at the truncation. The Greek legend encircles the bust in the field. |

| Reverse description | Dionysus, god of wine, standing in contrapposto facing left, nude or semi-draped, raising a cantharus (wine cup) in his right hand and holding a long thyrsus (fennel staff topped with a pine cone) in his left hand. The figure is rendered in the Hellenistic provincial style typical of Phrygian civic coinage of the Severan period. The encircling Greek legend names the city of Philomelium and the presiding magistrate Hadrianus. |
