Additional information

Amorium was a Phrygian city of modest regional standing whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader explosion of provincial bronze issues that followed his victory in the civil wars of 193–197. The city belonged to the conventus of Synnada, one of the judicial districts through which Rome administered the interior of Asia Minor, and local magistrates used coin issues partly as a form of civic self-promotion within that administrative framework.

The reference V.2#21 places this among the rarer documented types for the city.
