| Reverse description | A stepped altar depicted in the centre of the field, surmounted by four ears of corn (grain stalks) arranged symmetrically, symbolising the agricultural fertility of Cappadocia. The altar is rendered with a moulded base and a flat sacrificial surface, consistent with civic religious iconography of provincial Roman coinage. A wreath or decorative border element appears along the right side of the field. The Greek legend ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟ ΚΑΙϹΑΡΙ(ΑϹ) ΕΤ Β, denoting the metropolis of Caesarea and the regnal year 2 (ΕΤ Β), is distributed around the periphery and in the lower exergual area. |
