| Reverse description | Winged Nemesis standing left in full figure, holding a pair of scales in her raised right hand and a cubit rule (measuring rod) in her left hand, emblems of divine retribution and justice. At her feet to the left lies a wheel, a further attribute of Nemesis symbolising the turning of fate. The ethnic legend ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ encircles the design, identifying the issuing city of Hierapolis in Phrygia. The reverse composition follows the standard iconographic programme for Nemesis on provincial bronzes of the Severan and Philippan periods. |
