| Obverse description | Diademed head of Zeus Olympios facing left, with traces of drapery at the truncation. The deity is portrayed with a mature, bearded visage and elaborately rendered hair, consistent with the Olympian type prevalent in Lydian provincial coinage. The circular legend ΖΕΥϹ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΟϹ runs along the periphery of the flan. The die work reflects the provincial engraving style of the Conventus of Sardis under Marcus Aurelius. |

Maeonia was a minor Lydian settlement whose civic coinage under Marcus Aurelius coincides precisely with the opening years of his reign — and with the catastrophic Antonine Plague, which Lucius Verus's returning eastern legions brought back through Asia Minor after 165 AD. The magistrate name partially preserved in the legend, likely a second tenure (ΑΡ Α denoting first archonship), helps anchor this issue within a narrow administrative sequence that epigrapher Louis Robert worked to untangle across multiple Maeonians issues in the mid-twentieth century.
