Reverse description A Capricorn — the mythological sea-goat, emblem of Augustus and commonly adopted by later emperors — is depicted striding to the right, bearing a cornucopia on its back. The creature is rendered with the characteristic fore-parts of a goat and the scaled tail of a fish. The ethnic legend ΜΑΡΩΝΕΙΤΩΝ is inscribed around the periphery, identifying the issuing civic authority of Maronea in Thrace.
