Reverse description The goddess Demeter rendered in full figure, striding vigorously to the right, her robes in motion about her legs. She raises both arms outward, holding a long torch in each hand — her principal attributes as goddess of the grain and the Eleusinian mysteries. The Greek civic legend ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ ΝΕΩ is distributed in the field, proclaiming the neocorate status of Cyzicus. The composition is bold and energetic, consistent with the provincial workshop style of Mysia under Gordian III.
