The emperor's youthful effigy displays characteristic portraiture of the period, with a laureate wreath crowning the head and paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. Reverse description Zeus enthroned to the left upon a high-backed throne, his semi-draped figure rendered in a classicizing style typical of provincial Phrygian coinage. In his extended right hand he holds a patera, symbolic of his role as the supreme deity, while his left hand rests upon a long vertical sceptre. The exergual area shows the base of the throne, and an eagle may be discernible beneath. The ethnic legend ΒΡΟΥΖΗΝΩΝ encircles the type in the field, identifying the issuing community of Bruzus.
