| Reverse description | The xoanon-style cult statue of Aphrodite of Aphrodisias is depicted facing right in the field, rendered in the distinctive columnar, heavily adorned form for which the goddess's local manifestation was celebrated. Flanking the idol to left and right stand two attendant priestesses, while an object tentatively identified as a fountain appears in the lower field. In the upper field, a star and crescent are disposed to right and left respectively, emblems of divine and imperial symbolism. The ethnic legend ΑΦΡΟΔΕΙϹΙΕΩΝ encircles the design, identifying the issuing civic authority. |
