| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Gallienus facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Epirote civic coinage. The portrait displays the characteristic features of the emperor with a radiate laurel wreath crowning the head. The Greek legend ΠΟ ΛΙΚ ΓΑΛΛΙΗΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ (Publius Licinius Gallienus Augustus) runs around the periphery of the flan. The die work is of modest provincial quality, consistent with mid-third century AD municipal issues of Nicopolis ad Actium. The flan is irregular and shows typical wear and encrustation expected of a heavily circulated bronze provincial issue. |
