Additional information

Alexandria Troas was a Roman colony — formally Colonia Alexandria Augusta Troas — founded by Antigonus in the 4th century BC and later refounded under Augustus, who settled veterans there and granted it full colonial status. That status gave the city the right to issue bronze coinage on Roman denominational principles, which it exercised more consistently than almost any other Asian colonial mint. The Elagabalus years, 218–222, were administratively turbulent: the emperor's Syrian origins and religious reforms generated friction with traditional Roman institutions, but the colonial mints of Asia Minor continued striking without interruption.
