Additional information

Alexandria Troas was a Roman colony — Colonia Alexandria Augusta — founded by Antigonus and refounded by Lysimachus before Augustus resettled it with veterans and granted it full colonial status, including the rare privilege of ius Italicum, which exempted its landowners from provincial land tax. That status explains the COL ALEXA AVG formula on this and related issues. Under Caracalla, the city continued minting bronze for local circulation, operating within the conventus centered on Adramyteum for administrative and judicial purposes.
