| Reverse description | Apollo Smintheus, the mouse-god of the Troad, depicted standing left in divine repose, quiver slung over his shoulder, holding a patera in his outstretched right hand and a bow in his left. A tripod stands to the right of the figure, a raven perches to the left — the sacred bird of Apollo — and a cypress tree rises to the right, all emblems of the god's cult at nearby Chryse. The reverse composition reflects the strong local religious identity of the Augustan colony of Alexandria Troas and its association with the Apolline sanctuary of Smintheion. |
