Reverse description The lunar deity Mên depicted standing to the left, wearing the distinctive Phrygian cap characteristic of his Anatolian cult, holding a pine cone in one hand and a long spear or sceptre in the other. The figure is rendered in the conventional standing pose found on Sardian civic bronzes of the Severan period, reflecting the important local veneration of this deity in Lydia. The encircling legend proclaims Sardes' prestigious status as a twice-neocorate city, an honorific title granted for the establishment of two imperial cult temples.
