Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (Philip the Arab) facing right, depicted from the rear, with the emperor's military dress rendered in low relief. The obverse legend runs in Greek characters around the periphery of the field, identifying the ruler by his full Roman nomenclature. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped at the lower right, consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the mid-third century. The portrait style reflects the characteristic realism of Philipic-era provincial engraving.
