Reverse description Sarapis enthroned to the left, depicted in his characteristic syncretic form with a modius (grain measure) on his head. His right arm is extended forward over Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld, who stands at his feet to the left. In his left hand he holds a long sceptre. The encircling ethnic legend ΚΟΛΟΦΩΝΙΩΝ identifies the issuing city of Colophon. The type reflects the prominent cult of Sarapis in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire during the 3rd century AD.
