Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Nero facing right, portrayed in the youthful manner typical of his early reign. The laureate wreath is rendered with fine detail, and the bust shows traces of drapery at the truncation. A Latin legend encircles the effigy reading NERO CLAVD CAES AVG AN(NI) CIII, referencing his imperial titles and the colonial year. The style is characteristic of provincial Roman coinage from the colony of Sinope.
