| Reverse description | Tyche, the personification of civic fortune, stands facing with head turned to the left, wearing a kalathos (modius-like basket crown) upon her head. In her right hand she holds a ship's rudder, symbol of guidance and destiny, while her left arm supports a cornucopia overflowing with abundance. The ethnic legend ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ arcs around the figure in the field, identifying the issuing city of Magnesia ad Maeandrum. The composition follows the standard Hellenistic-Roman provincial iconographic convention for civic Tyche types. |
