| Obverse description | Youthful cuirassed and paludamentum-draped bust of Commodus, bare-headed, facing right and seen from the rear, presented in the standard provincial portrait style of the Antonine period. The legend is disposed around the bust in the field, reading COMMO CAISARI(sic) AV GER, the misspelling of CAESARI being characteristic of local provincial die-cutting at Alexandria Troas. The portrait reflects the early co-regency phase of Commodus under Marcus Aurelius, prior to his sole reign. |
