The emperor is depicted with his characteristic full beard, consistent with known portraiture of Macrinus. The Greek imperial legend encircles the bust, running along the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the provincial workshop style typical of Bithynian civic coinage of the early third century AD. |
