| Reverse description | Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, stands facing left in long chiton and himation, extending her right hand to hold stalks of grain. The figure is rendered in a static, frontal provincial style characteristic of the Mysian civic bronze coinage of the Hadrianic period. The encircling ethnic legend ΠΕΡΠΕΡΗΝΙΩΝ occupies the field around the central type, identifying the issuing community of Perperene. The reverse surface shows considerable wear and corrosion but the principal design elements remain discernible. |
