| Reverse description | An octastyle temple facade rendered in schematic provincial style, within which stands the cult statue of Artemis Ephesia depicted frontally and without lateral supports, as was customary on civic bronze coinage of Mysia. A stag is depicted to the left and another to the right of the temple structure, serving as the sacred animals of Artemis. The abbreviated ethnic legend ΑΒΥ appears in the exergue, identifying the issuing city of Abydus. The overall composition reflects the strong religious and civic pride of Abydus in its association with the Ephesian Artemis cult. |
