Reverse description Harpocrates, the Graeco-Egyptian deity of silence and secrets, stands facing left in the field, his right arm raised with index finger to his lips in the characteristic gesture of silence, while his left arm cradles a cornucopia resting upon a column. At his feet, the jackal-headed god Anubis is depicted, reinforcing the Alexandrian religious iconography. The reverse legend encircling the design records the joint civic names of Ephesus and Alexandria, attesting to an alliance issue between the two cities.
