| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, rendered in three-quarter rear view, displaying the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and the articulated scales of the cuirass. The effigy is boldly modelled in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage. The encircling Greek legend reads Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ, identifying the emperor by his official titulature as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. |
